Technical Documentation on IBM no longer available ... where should we go?

Hi,

More and more google results are linked to non maintained pages by IBM. That's bad signal for those who didn't stay tuned about the changes.
So where should we go to an online technical documentation (admin and developer portal), up-to-date, for our community ?

Regards

Hello Olivier,

You can view online technical documentations, now we call articles, on this link: https://hclpnpsupport.hcltech.com/csm

We are still in the process of migrating old technotes so some technotes might not yet be available on HCL site but soon it should be completed.

Thanks!

Hi Nelson,

my question was specifically about the help documentation, because the help database for Domino Designer, delivered with the Domino server or Designer client, are buggy and useless!

I used to search on google and IBM online helps.
We should have the same service from HCL as soon as possible!

Hi Olivier,

We are working internally to have an HCL version of the knowledge base that includes the information contained in the Help DB of Notes/Designer and Administrator. I will have to check with our Knowledge Manager for the ETA.

As for the issues you are having with help database of the Designer client, are you referring to the long indexing when doing a search from the 'Help Contents' in V10/V10.0.1? I encountered that problem after a brand new install of V10.0.1 searching for the appropriate APIs but after the initial indexing, the performance improved.

Or a much better alternative, sign up for V11 Beta and use Notes/Designer V11 - it has that quick search similar to V901. :)

Hi,

I already participate to V11 beta and the documentation isn't usable to, as you can see in the screenshot below ...

Hi Olivier,

Can you share your V11 Beta build version (Help > About HCL Notes)?

Hi Olivier,

I was not able to get that particular beta build. I have used the early Aug build and Oct Beta 2 build (hopefully to be released soon) but both has their documentation working fine for me.

As Erik mentioned below, we are in the process of migrating the product documentation and working to have it available on our site soon.

Please try again, the documentation is still available on the IBM website.

Hi Eric, the documentation seems to be alive again, but how long ?

As they notice, that could disappear at any moment.

"On December 6, 2018, IBM and HCL Technologies announced a definitive agreement under which HCL will acquire select IBM collaboration, commerce, digital experience and security software products. The transaction closed on June 30, 2019. The full list of products and part numbers included in this transaction can be found here.

This IBM Designer 10.0.1 documentation is current as of the closing date set forth above but will not be updated further. It will be retained here for a limited time for the convenience of our customers but may be removed in whole in part at any time. If you have any questions, please visit http://www.hcltech.com or you may send an email to: HCL@us.ibm.com."

We are in the process of migrating not just technotes but also product documentation. This is work in progress as we speak. I don't have an ETA as i'm not directly involved in that project. However, rest assured that we're trying to have the product documentation available on the HCL site before it is being permanently removed from the IBM site.

I really hope so.

Thanks!

IBM has removed Notes/Domino KB's and technotes now.

Seem the HCL KB/technote site is up and running. Though don't know how complete it is yet. One positive think is that the internal HCL search engine is way better than the IBM search engine :-)

Really hope that HCL makes it searchable via google too. As it is know a google search only links to the IBM KB/technotes that are dead links.

And here's the link to the HCL KB site. https://hclpnpsupport.hcltech.com/csm?id=kb_view2

Really odd that the results don't come up in Google. HCL needs to allow this asap.

And publish technical documentation ASAP too!!!

HCL search engine is better ? I searched for 'compact' term and that returned results in asian language first ... I specified english in my profile so I don't want asian content in first results.

If you get a Google result pointing to IBM, you can try The WAYBACKMACHINE to retrieve an archived version:

https://archive.org/web

Helped me in the last days a lot, but some content, especially dynamically calculated content like the Software Compatibility matrix is not accessible by The WAYBACKMACHINE. At least most dead static pages can be found there.

I've had trouble getting the Wayback Machine to work for IBM pages. If I try when I get an IBM "Yikes - we didn't catch all of that." error on old support pages, then I get basically an unauthorized message in Wayback Machine.

For example, this one: https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/contacts-application-does-not-roam-if-notesini-file-contains-namesnames-without-filename-extension-nsf

Do you have any luck with that one? I tried several others just now with no such luck either...

Also, getting a Wayback Machine browser add-on will be helpful. ;)

Alternatively, you can also use Google's cached version.

From the list of search engine results, there is a twistie on the right side of the entry to choose "Cached", then use the Text Version Only.

It would not retrieve images but you would get all the text information from the archived technote.

I have tried that as well. And it is hit-and-miss. For example, for the search that I did above to retrieve the link, here is the Google Cached version:

https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:kXU45aulviUJ:https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/contacts-application-does-not-roam-if-notesini-file-contains-namesnames-without-filename-extension-nsf+&cd=3&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us&client=firefox-b-1-d

For me, in a couple of browsers, none of the content is shown - only the title.

Thanks.
