Does Lotus Traveler 8.5.1.2 support iphone OS 4.0?After upgrading to OS 4.0, we get the error “connection to the server failed”.
Subject: Well do not upgrade iphone to iOS4
I cannot seem to get my iphone back to OS3 to get traveler working again.
Well not I have an iPhone with no email. I need to say great work IBM for staying ahead of the game.
Maybe it is time to dump Domino for gmail for my company. IBM just is not moving fast enough in the mobile area.
Subject: You can downgrade in iTunes
iTunes has an option to revert to the previous OS on the phone if there are issues with existing apps.
Subject: Didn’t downgrade
Unless there is special option on iTunes. I did the restore from backup yesterday in Itunes on my iPhone.
I did not get downgraded back to 3.0 but it did restore everything else to my last sync as for apps and music.
thanks
Subject: Contacts/Calendar Work - Email Not
My contact and calendar sync is working on iOS4 but email is not. Clearly something that requires a fix. I’ve tried with and without SSL.
Subject: iOS4 and Lotus Notes Traveler
I also had a trouble “failed connection” when I updated my iPhone 3GS into iOS4.
Apple-iPhone2C1: Online and the following changes are pending synchronization: mail:add/update
On my Lotus Notes Traveler page, I found above message that might be related with this problem, which I don’t have any clue how to figure out.
Subject: Now it’s working
I did nothing, but suddenly email works again with iOS4 with same profile I installed before.
I thought IBM or my company’s IT staff did something on the server…
Subject: OS 4 - some users report issues
Most users seem to work fine, but some are reporting similar issues. We are still investigating, but might be worth allowing the device to try to sync over a sizable time frame before taking action. We have had reports that some users saw the errors above, but after a few hours the device started syncing normally.
We will post an update when more is known about why this is happening.
Subject: Apple OS 4 timeout is 30 seconds
Apple OS 4 is using a timeout of 30 seconds. OS 2 used 60 seconds and OS 3 used 240 seconds. I have no idea why Apple shortened it that much.
To handle the timeout, you must configure Traveler to use a shorter timeout as well. To change the timeout, modify the value of AS_REQUEST_TIME_LIMIT in /traveler/cfg/NTSConfig.xml to be 20. Restart Traveler to pick up the change.
Hopefully that will resolve the issues, but we are continuing to investigate OS 4 differences, so let us know if there are additional issues after changing the timeout.
Subject: still the same
we’ve tried that config change and still get the same error. the profile validates as it checks the login but can’t connect to the server when opening the mail, or syncronise. this error appears on the server…
INFO Worker-004 CN=Martin Rolph/O=Oval[Appl87927BCC3NP] WorkManager$WorkerRunnable.run#494 Device sent a policy key of 0 which is zero or does not match the server stored policy key of 1277201770346, so a 449 HTTP return code will be sent
could that be it?
Subject: Finall got it to work - SSL required
I tried many things to get this working again, including cutting down my mail file as people on Exchange forums suggested. finally got it to work by setting up SSL on the mail server. Is good practice any way but I hadn’t got round it to.
So sync is only working when SSL is enabled. Turning it off results in the dreaded Unable to get Mail error. This is confusing as other people on this post say it’s working for them without SSL. doesn’t for me!
Subject: related error message regarding policy key?
24hrs later we still can’t sync. This is an error we’re seeing on the server but I dont know what it means…

New technote published by Apple
Subject: same problem
I’ve just installed OS 4 onto my iphone and now traveler doesn’t work. I get the same error as you. Have tried deleting and re-installing the profile but that doesn’t help.
In the Traveler nsf on the server my device now comes up without the name or the OS version so I guess it’s now unrecognised? Have IBM said OS 4 is supported?
Subject: iPhone OS 4 and Traveler
I have 3G iPhone and upgraded to OS4 and got same message. My iPad is still working ok on Lotus Traveler. (it will not get the update till September)
So the OS4 broke something most likely in the SSL part… my guess.
I am down grading to OS3 on my iphone 3G since OS4 is not something I need right now.
Subject: Displayed Versions
No it should be recognised (although it says still OS3 for some reason)
You should now not only get the OS Version but also the hardware type:
Apple-iPhone1C2/801.293(OS3) → iPhone 3G
Apple-iPhone2C1/801.293(OS3) → iPhone 3GS
Apple-iPod2C1/801.293(OS3) → iPod 2nd Gen.
Apple-iPod3C1/801.293(OS3) → iPod 3rd Gen.
Subject: iPhone and OS4 and Traveler
I wonder if Exchange users are having same problem?
I wish IBM would spend a few more development $$$$ on Lotus/Domino and mobile. IBM is big enough to work with Apple to get the SDK even before the public beta of iOS4.
As always IBM is behind in email … such is our lot in Domino world.
I would have felt IBM should have tested iOS4 beta against Traveler before today? and at least warned users of Traveler that iPhone may not work on release date of iOS4.
Subject: Why do you blame IBM.
Why do you blame IBM not to test the OS4. What about Apple - shouldnt they have tested the the different applications work before they push out a new release.
What about you - shouldnt you have tested it before pushed the new OS to your users?
Subject: Not Blame IBM just fustrated with them

I could not block my executives from downloading the new iOS4. So know I have executives calling me to fix their broken iPhone and Traveler.
-
I had no way of testing the iOS4 before Apple released it. I am not a fortune 500 company with an IT staff of 2000 people.
Someone at IBM could have tested the iOS4 beta before the rollout. I would honestly remove my frustration if it is document on IBM’s website somewhere. Maybe I missed some tech note or advisory from IBM on Traveler and iOS4?

Since the iPhone has been out now for a few years. My executives see Microsoft Exchange (at the top of the list of Add Account option menu) as ahead in iPhone support and no IBM Domino Lotus Notes in that that same menu option. This is a key point that why is Domino not in that menu lineup? AOL is there still today.

I understand software development is a complex issue with many moving parts. I just get tired of defending Domino/Lotus Notes is better than Exchange and Google Mail. ( yes I really like the product and have been using it since version 3.0).
IBM is a multi-billion dollar company and I know they could spare a little more development budget for Domino/Lotus Notes.
Subject: Works for me
I am using two different traveler servers (thanks OS4 for multiple exchange accounts!)
One is 8.51 FP1 with Traveler 8.51 FP2 the other is 8.52 CD5 (Beta)
Both work fine but I had issues on the 8.51 Server too. What I did was disabling and enabling SSL an re-typing the password and finally it worked.
As I had already a running account with the 8.52 server I went through a manual setup for the 8.51 account. As the traveler setup site still says old accounts will be deleted I didn’t wanted to endanger my running setup.
Using the installaton profile doesn’t allow you to edit the SSL option. So the above won’t work with the profile installation.
Another thing: shortly after the 8.51 server crashed. No information right now if this is related but we investigate that too!
EDIT:
-
Currently no evidence that crash is related to OS4.
-
We have several iPhones and touches on OS4 that connect without problems (even using the standard profile installation)
