It means what it says, the document has been encrypted and that user doesn’t have the right name and/or secret key in their id file.
If you think the msg is in error, then you have to break down what key the doc is looking for. Is it looking for a public/private key, in which case perhaps the user’s public key has been corrupted and that can easily be replaced. Or is it looking for a secret key, in which case perhaps the user has an id at work and one on a laptop (for example), and only pushed the secret key into one of those id’s, not the other.

How do they get the secret key so that they can read it? I really did look through the help. I even submitted feedback on the help database.

Um, feedback on what? There is a TON of information on encrypting documents and creating and using encryption keys in the Designer help. Just go to the index and look for Encryption and start there. Read it all. This is something you need to understand in detail before you implement it.

If you go into the document properties of the document where you are getting the message. Under the fields tab you can check for the SecretEncryptionKey This will tell you the name of the encyrptionKey that was used to encrypt this document.
However, the hard part is finding out what ID file this originated from. I am not aware of how to do that. I imagine it is whomever created this database/encrypted document. If you cannot get a copy of this ID file then you are SOL.

I have just fixed this problem in a users PC. You need to replace the names.nsf file with that from a PC that is working in. It should then work.
Hope this is of help.

The Public key that was sent to us match the one in ABB Notes. Therefore this is not the cause of the problem. If user isn’t able to read encrypted mails from certain senders then this might be cause by following.
The sender of an encrypted mail (he’s not able to access) has most probably contact in his Local Address Book with Public key that doesn’t match the one in ABB Notes.
In this case please delete old contact from sender address book there. And if it’s neccessary to have this user in Local Address Book you can add it with correct Public key again from the ABB Notes.
