Hoping someone can answer this for me. Would there be a reason why the SMTP service should be running on any server other than my SMTP server to route mail out of my domain. I was just looking and notice that SMTP is enabled on my servers. Sametime server, quickr server, internal mail server, BES server, etc.
I can’t think of a reason as to why they would need to be enabled, so I’m asking here before I disable them. Of course we have relaying turned off.
If you’re not using SMTP to submit mail to these servers, you shouldn’t need the SMTP task to be running. You can verify that no applications are submitting mail to these servers by looking at the SMTP statustics available via the “show stat SMTP” server console command.
Thanks for the reply Mike. It turns out the SMTP task wasn’t running on the servers. I was looking at the Server Document and the servers were enabled for SMTP, but the task wasn’t running.
