Would it help performance for attachments be put in separate database?

me thinking of allowing attachment only at separate database. ie user compose a form, if he needs to attach file, he will need to click a button, which will open up form from other database, than he can attach files, than clicked save, which will save and close the document in the current database, than will go back to existing document, and give a document links.

However, even if this sound possible, will the programming be mammoth, in order to achieve this? any simple function or @command that can be used instead?

any help is apprecited.tq

This is actually a common thing to do.You will keep your main database smaller which is always a good thing for replication etc.

There is no simple function or @Command to support this, you will have to do it alll yourself.

tq Kenneth,maybe next time i got time to research how to do this. if you have any tips, like suggestion for me to research under any particular lotus function, would be greate.

Subject: create remote attachments : Only a single line of code needed

See the Domino Designer Help for @Command([ComposeWithReference])

Create an Action Button on your main form (visible once your main document has been saved, containing this single line of code:

@Command([ComposeWithReference]; “yourServerName”: “yourAttachmentsDatabasePathname”; “yourFormForAttachmentsContainingABodyField”;1)

This creates and opens a response document, where the user can attach a file, already containing a reference to the parent document.

Using the response document’s PostSave event, update some field in the parent document with a forward link to the response document.

Or give the user a button containing

@Command([EditMakeDocLink]) to let them paste a link back into the parent.

Or you can automate the whole thing with a combination of @InheritedDocumentUniqueID and @DocumentUniqueID and @UpdateFormulaContext

(or you can do the same thing using around 20-30 lines of LotusScript, using the NotesRichTextItem.AppendDocLink method)
