We have a mail merge letter that has 5 custom fields to it. We would like to have these merge documents sent to the individual people. The email address is one of the custom fields in the document. Is there a way to run the mail merge in Word and then send the documents to the appropriate people through the Notes Client? Or do I need a tool to do this. Any information about doing mail merges with Word and Notes would be greatly appreciated.

You need to use OLE automation to do this, there is help in Designer Help and in the Word VBA help docs.
