WORD and EXCEL: pasted into RT Field: "The object does not have a registered ole server."

For years we have been pasting Word and Exel documents into Rich Text fileds using

Edit > Paste Speical > Microsift word document

Edit > Paste Speical > Microsift Excel Worksheet

This allows us to edit the document or worksheet in the Notes RT field.

This has worked perfectly for YEARS!.

Now we can no longer edit or past word documents... Excel documents are fine.

When pasting a word document we get the message:

When we try and open an already exisitng word document from a RT field we get:

I have tried upgrading Notes to FP7 this did not resolve.

I have unistalled and reinstalled Office 365. Still same error.

Any suggestions?

Cheers

Which notes Version ? If 13.0.2 is it 32 bit or 64 bit ?

Sincerly,

Notes 11.0.1FP7 - this was upgraded from FP4 today to see if it resolved the issue.. it didn't.

We have bee running with the same Notes config since fp4 came out without issue.

I am thinking it is a recent MS Update that has triggered the issue.

Hi,

What is the OS of the impacted machine?

Is it Windows 11?

Regards,

Amit

Windows 10

It looks like the OLE server corresponding to Microsoft word needs to be reinstalled on impacted machine.

If that doesnot helps, check on other machine with same OS but different build.

Ex --> Windows 10 Version 22H2.

This will help in narrowing down the investigation.

This doesnot looks to be a notes issue and hence Notes upgrade will not help in resolving the issue.

Amit,

Two machines so far have the same issue, both have recenty installed:

2023-03 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 21H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5023696) !!

We have not yet installed 22H2

Unfortuantlly we don't know when the OLE issue started as issue first raised last night.

Update....

It is not Notes caulisng the problem. Word documents were not showing the Preview pane of File explorer.

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

SFC /Scannow

Removed Office - Reboot and reinstalled office - Reboot

This has resolved the issue

Thanks

Thanks for confirmation that issue has been resolved.

As mentioned earlier, this was not a Notes issue.

Additional Info -->

You might get error with respect to object creation for bitmap images as well with Notes Client on Windows 11. That's the reason I enquired about OS details earlier.

There the issue is OLE Server corresponding to Bitmap images was not present on Windows 11 earlier (not sure about latest patch though).
