Win XP + Notes 601 + Explorer = Crash

Hello,

We are having a strange problem since we migrated from NT4 workstation (Notes Client 5.0.5) to XP Workstation (+ Notes 6.0.3). When Notes Client is started, and the user starts a windows explorer instance, a crash of Windows Explorer occurs after a few minutes (and Notes closes).

The client installation is split this way :

  • Program Files on c:\lotus\notes

  • Data Files on m:\notes (m:\ is a mapping on a netware server, where the names.nsf and id file are stored).

  • cache is on c:\lotus\notes (parameter in notes.ini).

Correct ACLs have been set on the c:\ drive at the NTFS level (enough rights to write to cache).

Any help - suggestion or remark is welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Hi!

I suppose you install over the old R5 rite? Actually there are quite a number of steps to do when upgrading. You can refer to IBM RedBook: Upgrading to Lotus Notes and Domino 6 at:

Well, our servers were upgraded to 6.0.1 CF2 using the Red Book you mentioned (with special attention to the Hub server for the Domino Directory upgrade), but client computers have been installed “from scratch” (no upgrades of V5 bookmarks or PAB with the new 6.0.1 design, we even copied Locations and PAB entries manually to the new names.nsf).

We tried to monitor the network if “loss of connection” with the Novell server occured, but found nothing…

In this case, I suspect the problem relates to the upgrades from NT4 to XP. Maybe some of the old settings (or files) in NT4 cause the error?

If possible, you can try to find a clean installed Windows XP machine and install the Notes client. Then try the same thing to see whether explorer crashes.

Good luck!
