Hi Folks,
We will upgrade our Citrix-Servers from Notes 6.xx to 8.5 this Weekend. Everything is planed, tested and works fine. So far so good.
There are many NTF-Templatefiles that need to get copied into the Notesdata-Directory of all the Users. With about 260 Users, that’s quite an amount of Data.
Most of these Users will only use the classic-Version of Notes (Because of Memory-usage and performance). So it would be nice to give every user only the templates he really needs.
I guess there are some NTF-Files that are not needed in the Classic-Version (and vice versa)… arn’t there?
Did anyone do the same thing and has a hint for me?
Thank you very much!
Michael
Subject: remove the large NTF files
My datadirectory which includes a installation of Domino Designer and Domino administrator contains about 250Mb of NTF files. I would suggest deleting the largest one that are not needen:
Mail templates
dwa7.ntf
dwa8.ntf
inotes7.ntf
mail7.ntf
mail7ex.ntf
mail8.ntf
mail85.ntf
Discussion and document library templates
discsw7.ntf
discussion8.ntf
doclbm7.ntf
doclbs7.ntf
doclbw7.ntf
nntpcl6.ntf
Journal template
phonebook7.ntf
notebook8.ntf
Administration templates
decomsrv.ntf
domadmin.ntf
dommon.ntf
icl.ntf
statreop5.ntf
There are probably other templates you may delete also. Proceed at your own risk.
Subject: Not sure if you are on the right track
To the best of my knowledge, Notes Basic (most likely what you call classic) and Standard (Eclipse/Java) share the same code as far as ntfs are concerned even where they look different - like in the mail file.
So the question for not needed ntfs is a generic one. if you remove some of them, you better be more than conservative (like when removing discussion) or need to check again everything - including odd cases, like when desktop and or bookmark is messed up or pernames.ntf might only be needed during upgrades.
But this is just my guesses.
