What Sametime imbedded in Notes client versions are supported when using Sametime server 11.6? I do not have any Notes clients older than 9. but I do see some messages like the following in log.nsf:
07/21/2023 03:56:39 Opened session for 'CN=<redacted>' (Release 9.0.1) SessId 216005BB Ip '10.15.9.22' 'Auth' 'C'
07/21/2023 03:57:39 Opened session for 'CN=<redacted>' (Release 10.0.1) SessId 217D05BB Ip '10.17.17.60' 'Auth' 'C'
Trying to determine if these have to be upgraded first. Or if they'll work with Sametime but just with some limitations. Is a certain version needed for persistent chat?
@Robert Berendt
Any Notes client Prior to Notes 11 does not have an embedded client that supports persistent chat
Starting with Notes 11, the embedded client version is Sametime v11, which does support persistent chat.
My recommendation is that all Notes client that are below Notes v11 should be upgraded.
Below is what version of sametime is embedded in notes
Notes 11, Notes 11FP1>> FP6 has Sametime 11 Embedded client
Notes 12 has Sametime 11.5 Embedded client
Notes 12.01, 12FP1 has Sametime 11.6 Embedded client
Notes 12.02 has Sametime 12.0.0 Embedded client
Please let me know if this was helpful
That's very helpful. So, Notes 9 should be able to chat? They just won't have persistent chat?
They can chat. However hat we have seen is that having them in your environment you will issues like blank or black chat. keeping the 9 client logging into a 11.x server is NOT recommended.
Don't get me wrong, we fully intend to upgrade everyone to Notes 12. But I really want to get off of our Sametime 9 servers and do not want to wait until the client roll out is complete.
I have two pairs of Sametime servers. One pair with 9 one pair with 11. Each pair is served by IBM's Edge server which basically is an intelligent IP sprayer. It's not a migration so much as it is a rip and replace. We know they'll lose their contact lists.
I may not have the persistent chat, but will Notes 10 clients still be able to chat on our Sametime 11.6 servers as well as they could on our older Sametime servers?
We had issues with Notes 9 clients. We're ok with telling them upgrade or die. However there are a few more 10 clients than 9 clients.
Notes 10 have sametime 9 embedded client. so whatever issues you ran into with Notes 9 clients.
expect to have the same issues with Notes 10 clients.
