What is the version limit of files?

Does anybody the limit of versions for files? Or knows where I can find it?

As I'm investigating one office file using some thousand versions and 50 GB used space, I doubt there is one. That's a big pain if a user wants to clean up. All versions have to be deleted manually one by one.

My file has a file size of

5.33 MB - Current Version and 4.59 GB - All Versions and 1803 versions.

It still works. The user decided to create a complete new file.
