What are language Packs

Vey basic question but I have never used language packs, what are they?

I work in a Japanese bank and we simply use English Domino and load either the English Notes client or Japanese Notes client on desktops depending on the user.

How would language packs changes this?

Language packs allow you to use tools like DGW (Domino Global Workbench) to design and maintain multi lingual databases that automatically display database design and contents in the users primary language.

Thanks for the info Paul but this seems to imply that I will still need to install either an English client or a Japanese Client on workstations?

In Windows XP you can now install a tool which allows you to switch between different languages which actaully changes all the menus to the other language negating to need to decide between loading which language operating system.

Something in Notes like this would be good!

Anyone know of anyway to do this.

Hi Mark,you must install the Notes 6.x Client with a MultiUserInstallation (MUI) in Japanese and than you have automatic a english installation too. (change it in Notes-Client File, Preferences, UserPreferences, International)

This option (MUI) is for the notes-client only not for the administrator/designer

The Language Pack CD is for the Domino-Server only!

Hi Paul,

Have you worked on DGW or have any info on how to make use of it.

I have tried to follow the steps given by creating Source, Glossary, Language, Tagged dbs.

After enabling multilingual db property and in notes preference, I opened the source db in notes client … no change in the display font.

But if I open the language db in notes client, I wuold get the preferred font (ex: German).

I wld be surprised if it’s the correct way of working ?

Infact I need the application to work in web browser, both source and language db shows, English font.

Appreciate if you can help me out to resolve this.
