Webmail/inotes trouble

Hello,

I’m getting quite desperate with our Notes web access. Everything works fine in a LAN environment. The trouble starts when connecting from WAN using dial-up connection. When attempting to read mail from WAN I can get to the user authentication. After the the browser just freezes. I tried watching the dial-up send/received bytes and a few bytes are send/received after user authentication then none. It just stops. From our mail server I can see that there is active connection to that dial-up ip using netstat command. Our firewall doesn’t log anything related to this problem. Neither does the Domino server. I tried to use inotes and webmail. Same error with both.

Any ideas how to debug this? I tried everything I could think of. I’m not quite sure of the Domino side though because I’m quite new to it

All ideas all appreciated. Thanks

-Miquel

Does the client have java virtual machine installed? This is required. Perhaps their browser does not permit java applets to run

Yes.I agree with the above. I got all kinds of weird authentication errors on users and then found out after I upgraded to the VERY LATEST Internet Explorer - the problems went away. I know IE 5.5 and lower will NOT work.

You might also want to check your browser settings in TOOLS → INTERNET OPTIONS → SECURITY (tab). Look at the ones Java Applets is ON.

You may also want to verify that there is not any type of pop-up blocker on the PC. The first thing it will tried to do is pop up a Security Warning for loading the applets.

And if none of those suggestions work…If your mail server uses SSL, have the user edit their MSIE settings and add your website as a “trusted site”.
