Hi there.
We have a client using IBM Notes 9.0.1.
At the client’s site, they have blocked some sites, e.g. Facebook.
Users cannot open Facebook on their browsers.
However, if they click on a Facebook link in their IBM Notes email, it opens in their IBM Notes client.
Has anybody had the same issue?
If yes, how did you ensure that some websites are blocked both on a browser and on the Notes client?
And does anybody have an explanation as to why this is happening?
Does the Notes client use a different port or something?
PS: the Firewall in question is a Sonicwall.
Subject: How is the web blocking supposed to work?
Is the firewall a proxy? Is the firewall blocking all other outgoing traffic on port 80? Is the proxy enforced by a policy that is only affecting the default browser and not all browsers? For example, if you install an alternate browser as a test, is that browser able to bypass your blocking as well?
If so, you could either configure their Notes Browser proxy settings (in the location doc) to match their default browser’s proxy settings and/or configure Notes to use the OS’s default browser instead of the built-in browser. This could be done on a case by case basis or by policy.
