Web retriever going; how to get HTML version of document?

We currently use db.getDocumentbyURL to get a HTML version of a document that contains ridh text fields. We then put the HTML into an XML feed and the document is thus made available to an affiliated site that purchases content from us.

IBM have advised that from 7.0.3 the web retriever is being withdrawn so our method won’t work.

Alternatives that I can see include:

(a) store the rich text as MIME/HTML. This has drawbacks, e.g. HTML properties of images are discarded by the client, etc.

(b) export the doc as DXL and use an XSLT to transform the rich text into HTML. I don’t know if this can be done, but if anyone has such a stylesheet I’d love to hear about it.

(c) rewrite our existing LotusScript agent in java and get the webpage using native Java internet classes which don’t rely on the web retreiver.

At the moment (c) is looking like the best option, but I’d appreciate any other thoughts.

Nik Dow.

Another alternative is to use a third party product, such as our Midas Rich Text LSX. Midas can generates high quality HTML or XHTML in any release of Notes from R4.5 through ND7 and doesn’t rely on the web retriever or http or anything else. Of course, it costs something, but then so would redeveloping the application in Java.
