Web Login Question

All,

When a user hits my server I want to open a pop up window for them to put in their username and password. Right now when they hit the server it is opening a form which allows them to enter their username and password. I’m sure its something very easy but cant find it.At this time I have the domcfg.nsf set up but Im willing to delete or make any changes in it. Any help will be appreciated.

Are you wanting to switch off session based authentication?

NAB, Server document, Internet Protocols tab, Domino Web Engine sub-tab, and set Session Authentication to Disabled!

You’ll need to restart the HTTP task for it to take effect and it may have a few undesirable side-effects as the browser now decides if it needs to prompt for a login, not the server!

Tony,

I’ve found that Session Based Authentication is the best way of authentication. The old style of pop-up browser based authentication is problematic on Domino 6, especially with sofisticated or complicated databases. Just keep that in mind.

I agree that the pink or yellow prompt page in the domcfg.nsf db is ugly. I’ve customized a domcfg.nsf db that looks much better. It wouldn’t take too much to put together some code that effectively hides the login fields, opens a new smaller window with the login fields, then returns that information back to the login form which populates the real fields and logs the person in. Effectively it would look much the same as the browser based authentication, but would still be persistant across the session.

So if you find you have problems in the future, let me know and I’ll give you some pointers on how to accomplish what I suggested above.
