Views and Performance

Hello Community!

I have a question about Domino-server-performance.

In one database we have about 100000 documents. These docs are sorted in 10 views (all the docs are in any view, but in different order). Of cause, it take a few minutes to compute any view and if a webuser opens one of these views, the response time is very large.

So what can i do to increase performance. Particularly: Does it make sense to split the 10 views to about 600-1000 views or is it better to split it to 10000 views and do it without any category in any view? (In this way i would create the views with an LS-agent.)

Or should i take Domino 7? I have read that views can opened asynchronously, so that the computing time is completely zero.

P.S. Sorry for my bad english! If someone finde a mistake he can kept it.

Thanks for any answers!

Bernd

Do not create 10,000 views. You will regret it!

You need to look at the design of your view.

  • is the selection formula complex?

  • does each column have a “sort” icon on it? This will mean that the server is maintaining a separate index for each possible sort option

  • what are the refresh settings for the views? Auto? Manual?

There are lots of articles on the web for domino views - here’s one for Notes 7:

It doesn’t take so much time to open up the documents in Web.Could you check the two below parameters in server document

Default lines per view page:

Maximum lines per view page:

If it is zero…then it is wise enough to give some numbers to that field may be 100,1000.If it is zero then all documents in view would be displayed in web at a time so it would take huge amount of time.

Answer is yes. Split the views. 100000 documents means that server has to update 10 views with 100000 documents each every time someone saves a document.

Views can be opened asynchroniously, but not when using applet - the major problem is that it has to read almost all documents.

Go for Lotus 7 - it gives you some speed bust.

For more help - please post your Selection Formula for views and column values.

Totally forgot!!!

We had a problem with long times downloading applet to show view.

The way is to install applet locally and that’s it - look for “shortening download times for lotus applets” or such - don’t remember. We found info on one of servers, and it works great.
