I just rolled POP3 port 995 and SMTP port 465 authenticated to my users and it works very well, especially for ATT Blackberry users, iPhone etc. Very few issues especially for the users that add POP3 accounts thru the Internet.
Now Verizon (ahem), it seems that Verizon’s web site will not allow ports 995 and 465 to be configured. Nor can their help desk set these ports for the customer or so they say.
Has anyone successfully configured POP3 to Verizon on ports 995 POP3 and 465 SMTP?
Their support is almost non exsistent when something is outside the norm.
We use IMAP on 993 and POP3 on 995 (both with SSL). Our TMobile and AT&T users have had no problems with this (other than the expected ones).
Recently we’ve had a number of Verizon and Sprint Blackberry users that cannot use our email. One of these users managed to get Verizon and RIM tech support together on a conference call, during which he called me and asked for confirmation of our IMAP server’s address and TCP port and if we were running IBM Lotus Domino. This was over three weeks ago and I haven’t heard anything from the user (though he has stopped calling and asking how to make it work).
There are a number of “auto-configuring” email clients out there, some of which seem to work. IMHO, the real problem is that there is no manual configuration option with Verizon and Sprint. As a result, we recommend that people not use these providers.
