vCard file handling not changeable by policy

In ND6.x you can set Notes to be the default vCard handling application: enable the option ‘Invoke Notes on vCard files’ in the Additional Options in the User preferences. There’s a couple of problems with this:

-it’s buried too deep for the average user. They are not likely to ever find it

-you can’t enable or disable this option with a policy

-Notes doesn’t enable this feature by default when Notes is set as default mail client

The result is that, unless an Administrator enables this by hand, or the enduser is trained and instructed to enable it, it’s not likely to be widely used. That is a pity. There’s a couple of solutions:

-bring the option more to the front in the user preferences

-put it in the setup and/or desktop policies

-if Notes is set to default mail client, then make it the default vCard handler too (or are people using other apps to do this?)

What do you all think?

Subject: vCard file handling not changeable by policy

Hello Just some other remarks of same nature that may increase your angryness as mine about Notes 6.5 :

  • vCard is not suppported as default signature

  • make your own vCard you have to make a contact with your data and export it as vCard

  • using Notes 6.5 as pop3/smpt client with two external mail boxes or more needs expert level (use Outlook Express to inderstand errors if you do not know notes.ini SMTPClientDebug=1 variable and local log.nsf)

  • suppressing local background auto index refresh is unbelievable …

Notes stay a great product with room to improvment my bet is next version will support wisiwig css

If a Notes product manager ever look here, please keep some developers !
