I am setting up a single Domino server inside a complete Exchange/Outlook environment. To send mail from Domino to users, I have had to create a Configuration document with a Smart host connection. Now the mail is routed out correctly, but I get a log entry with every mail saying “No SMTP route found to smart host”. If I remove the smart host, then mail to valid users doesn’t get routed to Exchange, since we are all in the same domain. Mail to foreign domains gets out whatever the Smart host setting.
Did I make some mistake here? Should I have set up the Domino server with a fictitious domain? Any help appreciated.

search for my name and “SMTP” here and in the 5 forum: there’s circumstances where yo uneed an SMTP connection document as well as a defined Smart Host - the conneciton document can have “WOFTAM” or “ANYSERVER” as the target, it just needs ot be in there to resolve the SMTP routing.
Does the Exchange server forward all your outbound messages too?

Steve, thanks for the response. I do have an SMTP connection doc, and I lucked onto your solution for a nonsense name, because it was returning a message of excess hop count on local domain emails when I had a valid domain address there.
The emails are going out fine. My only problem was the error message in the log which was more an inconvenience than a serious issue.
However, please see a more recent posting from me about having now lost all Web access to the system after I made the configuration changes. Your help will be much appreciated.

Losing web access is very odd - I have machines which are access solely by their external numeric IP address, through all manner of routers and firewalls, and there’s seldom a problem from incomplete DNS definitions or connection documents.
