Upgrade to R6 from R5 with Domain Transition

Background Info:I have recently taken over as the Admin for a company that was a division of a larger company that has been sold off. We are currently on R5 and would like to go to R6. We primarily use mail but have 2 to 3 small apps running on the server. We would like to change the domain for notes to match our current Windows 2000 active directory domain name.

Objectives:

  1. Build out a new Server running R6 with the new Notes Domain.

  2. Migrate our existing users over to the new R6 domain from the old R5 domain.

Questions:

  1. Has anyone attempted this?

  2. Are there things that I should look out for?

Subject: Upgrade to R6 from R5 with Domain Transition: only Domain or Certifier too?

Jason,

I did tons of migration work during the last year. One thing I need to have clarified before I can comment on your post:

do you ONLY want to change the Domino Domain name, or do you ALSO want to change the CERTIFIER (that is the Domino Organization)?

I ask this because many single-domain-single-organization environments don’t distinguish between domain and organization, but this is terribly important in order to recommend a migration path …

Subject: RE: Upgrade to R6 from R5 with Domain Transition: only Domain or Certifier too?

Sorry if I was not too clear. Our goal is to setup an entirely new domain with a new certifier. We then would like to migrate all of the users from the old domain to the new one. We are not using any OU’s as the orginization is not big enough to justify it. This would be a domain to domain transfer of users including thier mail files.

I hope that this further clarifies the question and I do thank you for your help.
