What kind of things will I experience if I have Domino Server 8.5 and I upgrade only the Notes Clients to Notes 10?

No issues are expected. Notes Clients should work properly.
Anyway I strongly recommend you to upgrade your Domino Server as well.
The 8.5x version is not supported since some years ago.

Hi Mac,
That depends upon how you want to use notes client after upgradation. Every release of Domino/Notes comes with many new features and bug fixes. You can refer to fix list information that comes with Notes Client/Domino Server V10 release if any situation matches with your environment.

If you are looking for just mail file related things, then backward compatibility is supported during upgrade.

Although, we would recommend to upgrade Domino Server as well to avail latest features.

Hi Mac,
You will need to be very careful on any design changes that are made to existing or new applications. There are lots of new design features in V 10 that do not exist in 8.5. If one of your designers make use of one of these new features, the Server will not know about the new changes and cause issues. This s just one of the reasons it is recommended to upgrade your servers first and then the clients.

Since Domino 8.5 version is already out of support and if you face any issues while accessing Domino 8.5 server with Notes client 10 client you will not get support and support team will ask you test with the Domino 10 version and see if the issue is reproduced there.
However, there are customers who have been using this way on their own risk as Notes client provides backward compatibility and users will not be able to use the latest features of Notes/Domino 10 accessing old version of Domino 8.5.
We always encourage our customer to be on the latest release of Notes/Domino to get advantages of new Notes/Domino features.
