We are running a mixed environment. We currently have 800 users. 180 of which are on a R6 server. the remainder are on the R5.12 server. Has anyone had any issues with upgrading from r5 to r6 on the iseries???
any comments are welcome. Good, bad, ugly, etc. I would like to know what the experiences out there are with the upgrade to R6 on the 400.
We have fallen into issues with the replication on 6.01 when Lotus tried to streamline the replication. This is causing us to be a little over-cautious with the upgrade.
TIA

Hi Lou - can’t offer you much info on your question but would be interested in more details on “We have fallen into issues with the replication on 6.01 when Lotus tried to streamline the replication.”

Our environment was a single DSD running R5.12. We implemented a 6.01 server on Windows and added it to a cluster to the R5.12 server.
When users would open the mail files on the cluster server when we tested failover we found that some (not all) mail files would have issues with the location of documents. Some users complained of messages that popped up into their inbox after they had moved the message into folder in the past.
Server A -R512
Server B -R601
The file on server A would contain 32 documents in the inbox and a total of 900 documents in the mail file. The file on server B would contain 900 documents in the inbox and 900 documents in total. The file on server b did have the correct folders and did include the documents in the proper folder. The problem was that the document was still seen in the inbox.
SPR# TMGY5J7MFH Resolved the issue in 601 CF2. This was a big issue as some high end users saw this as a big issue. When some of the Sr VPs had to redo their email folders we had to put the brakes on the upgrade.
Thank you all for your response.

We upgraded to 6.01 from 5.0.11 and were running V5R1. I’ve kept most of the clients on R5, but we haven’t had any major problems. I haven’t gotten the Server Console to work on the iSeries, but I just haven’t had the time to call tech support on the issue. Besides, I can do everything I need to do via Client access.
Just follow the upgrade guidelines and you should be fine.

Subject: “Mail Rule” issues
We recently upgraded a customer from R5.0.11 to R6.01. The upgrade went well until we implemented server-based Mail Rules to catch SPAM messages. Processor utilization went through the ROOF after the rules were implemented. This occured even when the rules were applied to a different server (within the same domain) on a different platform.
Subject: RE: “Mail Rule” issues
One of the issues with standard r6 server based mail rules is that all of the rules are processed all of the time with one exception - in the case where you set to ‘do not accept the message’.
no.Spam.domino allows you to break out of the rule set at any time by using the additional mail rule action ‘Do not process any more rules’. It also has a number of performance enhacement options such as checking a limited amount of the body text (512b, 1kb, 10kb) instead of the default 64kb in standard rules… this saves the overhead of converting the first 64kb of a mail body to text before checking each time.

We are at 6.0.1CF1 on iSeries V5R1. We’re having no issues with server-based rules.
Upgrading to 6.0.2CF1 this weekend…
Subject: Upgrade from R5.12 on iSeries / AS/400
I upgraded from 5.011 to 6.01 on an iSeries 270 running V5R2. Just be sure you read the readme and apply the necessary PTF’s and go through the steps in the Redbook “Upgrading to Notes and Domino 6” and you’ll be fine.
The only caveat I have is to be careful when upgrading the design of your mail files. Some of ours lost their folders and it was a real pain to have to go back through and restore them.
I’m not sure what replication problem you are talking about, but I haven’t had any major issues with it.
Thanks,
Charles
