Upgrade from iNotes to Verse (on prem)- multiple mail servers

Domino/Notes Version: 14.5.1
Add-on Product (if appropriate, e.g. Verse / Traveler / Nomad / Domino REST API): Verse
Its Version: 3.2.6
Operating System: Windows
Client (Notes, Nomad Web, Nomad Mobile, Android/iOS, browser version):

Problem/Query:

I have 3 Domino servers located in different cities, each server has the ‘local’ users mail files.

I have just upgraded them from 11/12 to 14.5.1.

Previously each server ran the HTTP task and the users could use webmail to access their mail.

With the upgrade this is no longer available.

The main server is not having any issues, local users can access it using Verse. This server also has Traveler installed and the mobile clients (from all sites) can successfully use Verse on their phone.

Am I supposed to install/configure on each remote server, or is the ‘admin/main’ server supposed to connect to the remote server and display the mail?

In other words, do should I have one Verse server, or each mail server is to be configured as a Verse server?

Sorry if this is an obvious question, I have read the documentation over and over and this scenario is not clearly explained.

Thanks,

Damien

Damien,

I am not sure I understand your issue. My confusion arises from this fact: previously webmail in Domino used to be called iNotes. Now (since 14.5 I think) iNotes has been dismissed and replaced by Verse. Add to this that there is a mobile app (for both iOS and Android) called Verse. This app connects to Domino by means of a Traveler server.

From your message I understand mobile users with email on your main server can access their email via this mobile app.

I know for sure that Traveler can connect to other servers to access email for those users that have email on remote servers.

I do not understand what do you mean by Verse server. Do you mean Verse the mobile app or Verse the new UI interface for webmail?

A single Traveler server can provide email for all of your company users (even for users that have email on remote servers).

If you load http on each server, users can connect to them and access their email directly using a browser (Verse) interface.

Also, the Verse (webmail) interface can be “installed” on Chrome browsers and configured to be used offline. This uses only http task on server.

If you tell us a bit more of your scenario detailing if your issue is with web access to email or with mobile Verse app we can try to help.

Hi Michelangelo,

Thanks for response.

Yes it is Verse new UI interface for webmail. The mobile Verse app seems to be working as expected.

The webmail was configured to run the HTTP task using port 81, and this is still the case, I wonder if Verse must use 80 or even 443.

This server does have IIS running on it using port 80, I wonder if this is causing a conflict, or if I need to change some settings on the Domino server to allow Verse to use a different port?

Damien

Hi Damien,

the Verse webmail uses whatever you configure for the http task … 81 and or 443. Http could use both 81 and 443 or just one of those.

The settings for this are in Server Document → Ports tab → Internet ports → Web tab

Hi Michelangelo,

Thanks for confirming, I have been able to configure it now. There was a conflict on 80 & 443, but I have now changed 443 to 8443 and it seems to be working.

I think the confusion was that as the webmail was only being used on the LAN, we didn’t worry about SSL, but it seems Verse needs to use SSL.

Thank you for your timely responses.

Regards,

Damien
