Upgrade Domino 5 to Domino 7

Hi,

I want to upgrade from Domino 5 RC 5.05 to Domino 7.0.2 and also upgrade alll of my clients from Notes 5 to latest client version.

I have two Domino Servers at two different sites with replication going (both on same domain)

I would be interested to hear feedback on potential probems of the upgrade, will all the applications we’ve built still function correctly on the new version?

Does anyone have documentation or links to documentation on performing an inplace upgrade.

Your help is appreciated.

Hi Johna,

I am working on an upgrade from 5.0.12 to 7.0.2. The main issue we have found so far with applications is with new R7 properties and methods eg NotesDocument.IsEncrypted. The majority of the apps run ok. I suggest you audit your apps using Teamstudio Analyser which will identify most of the known issues with the code.

I am also aware of a problem where clients prior to 5.0.9 can crash when accessing a 7.0.2 Domino Directory, however I do not have any detail on how to reproduce this problem.

HTH,

Mark.

Hi,

I have upgraded 15 servers so far from 5.0.9/5.0.11/5.0.13a to R7.0.2 with not many issues. We spent 4 FTE weeks testing our applications with R5 client on R7 server and R7 client on R7 server and found few issues.

One issue we did encounter was with R5 clients using reservations databases. I followed the Lotus best practise guide to the letter, but our R5 clients could still book rooms that had already been booked out. I logged a call with Lotus and the workaround is to upgrade the clients to R7!

If you search the forum for deleting reservations, there is a field APPTUNID that you will need to set on reservations before they can be deleted under the R7 design.

If you would like any further info, give me a shout.

Thanks,

David

Hi all, thanks for all suggestions/help; the resources listed have been very useful and the feedback on application compatibility has been great.

The only piece still puzzling me after all my research is whats best practise when moving a Domino 5 server from NT 4 to a existing W2k3 Server on a different name/ip address.

Clearly I cannot install R5 onto Windows Server 2003.

I’m thinking that perhaps the best solution might be to install Domino 7.0.2 onto the Windows Server 2003 server and then copy the whole Notes/Domino setup from the NT4 server over and then launch Domino and hopefully it will pick up/work out the config.

Although I’m not sure if it will spit the dummy completely due to the different servername/ip address of the Windows Server 2003 box.

Note that this server move is *not the primary administrator Notes server but a *spoke/hub server if you like in IBM terminology.

Cheers.

You say, “Clearly I cannot install R5 onto Windows Server 2003.”

Why not? We’re running Domino 5.0.13 on Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition without incident…
