Upgrade by Mail "Unable to locate program"

I am using the Upgrade by Mail feature and I am able to successfully create a memo and send it out to my users. But when my users click on the upgrade button, they are getting the error message “You cannot quit Notes while the dialog is active. Switch to Notes first and close the dialog” and THEN the error message “Unable to locate program”.

Has anyone bypassed these error messages and were able to use the Upgrade by Mail feature to work correctly?

I am having the same problem. Any idea what I am doing wrong?

Hi,

I was finally able to get it to work.

The issue was the setup path you supply for the upgrade notification needs to be visible and accessible from the client that is accessing the kit for the upgrade. So if you put in a network path/share that is visible to the workstation needing the upgrade, the setup procedure works.

Also make sure the field “Path for Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000” should begin with the backslash (""). If not it will give you this same error “You cannot quit Notes…”

Hope this helps.

Hi. I had the similar problem while trying to upgrade my clients using mail. The problem was user rights to access the network share I’d set up.The root path pointing into setup files should be in format \SERVER\Sharename\

The path from Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000 shold be in format \SERVER\Shared folder\setup.exe

Make sure all the users have access into this directory. Least my problem was incorrect access rights into shared directory.

Hope this helps.

Has anyone experienced this and been able to resolve it? I am experiencing the same item. I followed the upgrade redbook as follows:

-Notes Install Kit path: \servername\folder\Installation_folder

-I placed the setup.exe and additional set up files from the CD into this Installation_folder

-The person has Admin rights to Windows

-The person has Write/Modify permissions to the program directory and data directory

  • no customization

I get the same errors as Rusty did. What am I missing?? Please help!

Thanks
