Upgrade 5 client to 8.5.1 client

Hi all,I have to upgrade a client(company) that has about 80 users and they are still using notes client 5. I have already gave them documentation and they have implemented domino 8.5.1 so that was not a problem.

The company does not use lotus notes for email. They only use lotus notes for a database program that has its own templates. So my question is how should I get them to upgrade the client.

  1. Should I tell them to just uninstall R5 and then install the new client.

  2. Install newest client over top of old client.

  3. Or is it possible to do email upgrade, I know smart upgrade is out of the question as R5 cannot do that.

  4. Or lastly is there another way to do the upgrade.

I hope you ahve taken care to migrate server first to R6.5 and then R8.5. As this is the recommended system.

Since it is R5 to R8.5, better to freshly install the R8.5.x client to the user’s desktop.

Note: It will result in lost of Bookmarks & Private views/agents.

As you said, client is mainly using it for applications, better to check it for compatibility. After R5 there are lots of new keywords, formulas, LS methods, Java Methods are introduced. If any of this name is used as function or Sub routine for application that function will not work.

If the new Keyword is used as variable then it may perform differently.
