Sorry, I’m not familiar with RPG, but if you’re going the Java route, a properly encapsulated way of writing to the Domino directory is via JNDI with an LDAP service provider. The “Domino Directory FAQ” (google it) has references to JNDI/LDAP Domino programming.
In general, a directory interface like LDAP is preferred over using Notes.jar, opening up names.nsf, and writing documents into it.
