Unable to send POP3 from Nokia device

I have a user that is using a Nokia 9500, I think is the model…anyway, we have pop3 set up on the server and he can authenticate with the server and receive emails on his handheld, however, he cannot send emails. We only have one server for our internet email, so incoming and outgoing pop3 server setting is the same. Here is what happens in the log:

02/24/2006 05:49:02 PM POP3 Server: xxx.xx.xx.xx connected

02/24/2006 05:49:04 PM POP3 Server: User/Domain/US logged in; connecting host xxx.xx.xx.xx

02/24/2006 05:49:05 PM Begin CD to MIME Conversion(Process: POP3 Server (00000930:00000008), Database: d:\Domino\Data\Mail\xxxxx.nsf, Note: 0000565E)

But when he tries to send, I see this in the server log:

02/24/2006 05:50:48 PM Begin MIME to CD Conversion (Process: ? (00000804:00000002), Database: d:\Domino\Data\MIMEShield\PMRouter.nsf, Note: 00000000)

02/24/2006 05:50:48 PM End MIME to CD Conversion (Process: ? (00000804:00000002), Database: d:\Domino\Data\MIMEShield\PMRouter.nsf, Note: 00000000)

We’re using mimeshield as our spam filter, so I don’t know if that plays a part, but I do have an “allow” for that user and address, so…well, obviously, I’m not sure what is going on. Has anyone come across this or seen this before?

I appreciate any help that can be provided…

Thanks,

SRC

for clients, POP3 is for retrieval, SMTP is for sending.

bump up the smtp logging to verbose and see if that helps identify the problem. are users allowed to relay off that server?

Thanks for your help, Ray…sorry for the delay in responding.

I’ll turn the log up…And no, users are not allowed to relay off of our server.

Steven:

Two things.

First you need to change the relay setting on your server such that “Allow all authenticated users to relay” (in configuration document >> Router SMTP >> SMTP Inbound Controls).

Second, set the account on the phone (under “advanced” on most phones) to “use authentication” on the outgoing SMTP server settings.

That should do it.
