Unable to Open File

This problem occurs on both of my Macs. It is also occurs in the trial of Notes 7 as well as 8.5 Beta 1 and Beta 2. It does not occur in 6.5.

When I reply, reply to all, or create a new message, I get an error “Unable to open file” After clearing it by clicking Ok, I can then proceed without a problem.

Annoying as heck but not deadly. I have searched all of the forums, found one other reporting it with no solution.

Any suggestions out there??? Thanks!

Subject: Possible workaround

Could you please replace your Mail DB design?

Go to menu View-> Advanced Menus, enable Advanced menus

Open your Mail DB

Go to menu File->Application->Replace Design…

Select mail(R85)

Reopen Mail DB

Subject: Replace Design Impact?

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. Before I replace the design, I need a bit more information. I use Lotus Notes on multiple computers. On my other, I am running 6.5 on Windows XP. If I change my design to 8.5 on the Mac, will that impact the design on the PC?

In other words, does this cause the server to change all my instances or is this a strictly local change?

I think it will impact your PC. Replace design will change the template of your mail DB on server.

Subject: New Message - Variant does not contain an object

I do not know why, but the first error message has ceased and this new one has arrived.

The behavior is the same. In attempting to start a new message or a reply, I get this message. After clearing it, I can proceed. However, if I originally used “reply to all”, I need to “reply to all” again.

Any suggestions?
