Unable to get subform table id handle on onload event of form

I have a subform which contains a table. In the html section of that table, i have given it an id.On the onload event of the form, I try to get the handle of the table as under:

alert(document.forms[0].getElementById(“id”))

But this alert does not fire.

Please tell me why.

It would sure be helpful if you can provide more details. Do you work on a Notes (Client) or Domino (Browser) application? I presume the later.When you check the source code in the Browser is the id there?

And isn’t getElementById a function of the document rather the form?
