I am unable to connect my local postgres DB which is on Windows 10 machine to Volt MX Iris on Windows 10 same machine.
I used the Foundry, chose integration and gave the credentials. But when I press Test connection button, I keep getting an error.
Failed to initialize pool: The connection attempt failed.
Attaching screenshots for reference.
Hi Samuel,
Can you tell me which Volt Foundry (the stand-alone Volt MX middleware app server) are you using? Is it the cloud-based trial Foundry, or is it your own Volt Foundry installed to an on-prem server?
You can find from the Volt Iris "preferences", which Volt Foundry you are using. From Iris top-level menu-items, find and click on "Preferences", then note the Foundry URL in the section "Volt MX Foundry".
The foundry url is https://manage.demo-hclvoltmx.com
Hi Samuel,
Thanks for the info on Volt Foundry. That Foundry URL means you are using a trial cloud Foundry, https://manage.demo-hclvoltmx.com. Its IP address is outside of your network; hence the Foundry will not be able to reach your internal Postgres DB at the IP address you specified 192.xxx.x.xx . You have to determine your external IP address, in order to set the DB Connection URL in Foundry's Integration service. Try https://whatismyipaddress.com/ or similar site to determine your external IP address.
Here is a quick architecture of Volt MX. You are using Volt Iris IDE which is installed to your laptop/pc. It uses the cloud Foundry (Volt MX middleware service layer) at manage.demo-hclvoltmx.com network domain. Hence, any changes or development you are doing in Foundry, are being saved in the externally hosted Foundry. Therefore, if you want any Foundry service to reach inside your network, it will need your home/office external IP. You may still have a problem having Foundry reaching your DB, due to firewall and port restrictions; you may have to remove those restrictions.
As an alternative, Volt Foundry has a Data Storage Object service, which you can use to save data.
Hi Samuel
Thanks for the update.
Kindly update whether the Postgres DB can be accessed from the internet. ? Since you are using Cloud demo HCL Volt MX Environment which is trying to search the IP Address which you have mentioned via internet and that server should be available to be accessed from internet.
If it is not accessible via internet then you cannot connect to that database. If you use a onpremises Foundry server installed in the same machine then you can access that database using local IP address.
Also kindly make sure you are using correct IP address.
When I logged in to Volt MX Foundry it says that I don't have access to on-premise licences, so I guess I must try some other way.
Is there an option to put the database file (project.db) itself in the assets folder and access a light weight db? Like an sqlite DB maybe from this cloud Volt MX Iris?
Hi Samuel,
The message you see in the trial cloud Foundry is a reminder for you to activate your license. For temporary development, you can ignore the message in the meantime. All Foundry services will work.
Volt Foundry is a middleware service layer, hence it does not have a SQL container for your DB files. If you need a storage to store data, in the Objects service, there is Data Storage in which Volt Iris can easily send and receive data.
To access your DB hosted in your PC/laptop/server from inside your network, you will change your network modem, router, or WiFi router settings to map an external HTTP port, e.g. 5432, to the PC/laptop/server internal IP address and port, for example to 192.168.10.10 port 5432. This change will make your DB available on the Internet and thus accessible from the cloud Foundry.
Another option is to use AWS instance for DB on a trial basis. Sign up for it, then copy your DB files to the AWS DB instance. Being on the cloud, Foundry should then be able to access this cloud DB.
Local Db cannot be accessed from cloud foundry.
You need to have DB accessible from the Internet, then only you will be able to access thru cloud foundry.
