Type-ahead issue

I’ve had a request from our users who have no brains with regards to type-ahead, and I was interested to know if anyone knew the answer to it.

When a user types in ‘admin’ to the sendto field and does a lookup on our Directory they get a list of about 5 different users/groups that they can select from. They will generally always want a group called ‘Admin Assistance’, but the default is ‘Administration Requests’, even though Admin Assistance is first in the list.

Now, of course being users, they don’t even look at the list and just choose the default causing them to think they’ve emailed Admin Assistance.

Does anyone know how to change the default, or even how it works?

Thanks

Dan

I’m guessing here, but maybe the fact that the groups were created in a certain order is the problem.Since you say you are getting the typeahead suggesting admin r before admin a I suspect the typeahead is searching using noteid which is ever so slightly chronological in base.

Try recreating both groups (or all of them!) and creating the one you want to be the default first.

Thanks - that was my guess too.

Any idea what the impact of removing important groups, even temporarily, might be? One of the groups is called Administrators and is the group that gives the Domino Administrators (ie me and my mate) access to every db, and is used in the server config documents and everything. Don’t really want to risk removing it…

if you make Administrators an Access Cotrol List only instead of multi purpose it will not allow users to send mail to it.

That one is ACL only, but it still comes up on the list, so if the previous suggestion was right it’ll be selected before the Admin Assistance one that I need to be selected by default. So I’d still need to remove it and recreate it (don’t want to do that…)

OK, how about cut and paste straight back in?

I think (this is going back a long way - R4 SA1 or something) that a paste operation gives a document a new note id.

That may be all you need.

Of course you should take a backup first as its the main domino nab we’re talking about…

Good luck, and don’t blame me!

Is it alright if I give my manager your email address before doing this? Preferably your phone no., then I’ll go on holiday as soon as it’s done!

lol

Not sure it’s quite mission critical if it’s going to require such a dangerous operation. Don’t really want to risk it unless, especially as we don’t know for sure that it’s the case (guess I could easily test it though by making a couple of other groups up temporarily)

Thanks for the suggestions though

I’m pretty sure that you are home free trying to cut and paste the “Administrators” group from your NAB… All references to the groups is being made from it’s name, and not it’s Document ID, Note ID or any other “hidden value” - i bet you are thinking of Windows

I would not be afraid of performing that operation in my own installation - and wouldn’t call it mission critical … just make sure that you only cut one document at a time, and then remember to paste it before you cut the next

Even though I’m pretty sure that it will work without problems - I do not provide support, guarantee, mail addresses or phone numbers - but feel free to post back if you experience problems.

if they try to send to an ACL-only group they would get an error msg. Short of that shows reason why it’s important to think out your naming conventions in advance to prevent issues such as this. In past companies I’ve worked for we preface our system groups with a special character such as $ or #. This drives them to the bottom of the list
