TSM TDM issues - Need Help

I have Domino 8.5.1 installed on a test machine. I have never tried to install/use Tivoli components until recently and I am finding that this is not all that easy. Basically, I would like to get everything running on this one physical machine for testing purposes.

I installed TDM and configured it but for some reason settings were not staying. I installed TSM and got errors while starting and then discovered I had to create a dsm.opt file. This allowed it to start without errors but then could not do a backup because it said TCPIP communication errors.

The TDP seems to connect to port 9003 via web browser.

I want to set this up so that TSM can do hourly backup of notes data folder. All paths are default so lotus domino is data folder is c:\program files\ibm\lotus\domino\data. TSm is c:\program files\tivoli\tsm and the TDM is installed to c:\program files\tivoli\cdp_for_files.

the ip of my lab machine is xxx.xxx.18.168

I am hopeful I have given enough info that someone can just give me the basic steps to get this working and can help me understand why this is so difficult to install.

Any and all help welcome. Need this running soon. Thank you.

What client are you using to perform the backup? Tivoli Storage Manager client or Tivoli Storage Manager for Mail client? The client(s) need to be configured properly in order to communicate with the TSM server.

You can change port settings if needed.

It does not matter where the program files are installed. You need to configure the client(s) properly. Using the TSM or TDP (Tivoli Storage Manager for Mail) client…

  1. Configure your client(s) in the TSM server with a policy

  2. Configure the client to connect to the TSM server

  3. Configure/create a backup script/batch file

  4. Schedule that script or batch file to run hourly

the ip of my lab machine is xxx.xxx.18.168

It doesn’t matter what your server IP address is

I am not sure what you are referring to when you say TDM. What is the full product name? Also, why would that be installed in the cdp_for_files directory?

Thank you for your response. Not knowing exactly what I needed in order to replicate a problem we were trying the many different components that others were using. In the end it was more simple than we thought. The problem was related to domdsmc.exe not playing well with out extension manager when Domino was running as a service. An issue similar to this was reported before with ODBC which you can read about here http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21088498. It was real frustrating working with TSM and the different components being we had no experience with installing and configuring these and I am sure some of the frustrations we had others must have also experienced. But we are past that now thank goodness. Ha ha ha.

Thanks again for your response.
