Traveler e-mail messages and device types

'ning all,

Is it possible to inspect a message in a server’s mailjrn.nsf and determine whether it came from a device connected to a Traveler server and, more importantly, which mobile device sent the message?

The ‘connected to a Traveler server’ part I can work out, but it’s the ‘which mobile device’ that has me stumped - from what I can see so far, there is no way of doing so. Is there a configuration setting on the Traveler server be enabled that allows the device name/type sending the message to be stored somewhere in the message properties?

Example:

triffus.maximus@mycompany.com mailto:triffus.maximus@mycompany.com has a blackberry device and a Verse-enabled iPad. I want to work out how many messages he’s sent using the blackberry and how many messages he’s sent using the iPad.

Any ideas?

Subject: Shows the device for me.

Must be cos mine shows the device name and OS and I’m not using BES, just straight to Traveler.

Subject: Could be the Traveler server version

I don’t see it being a BES issue as it just acts as a proxy for the ActiveSync connection. It could be that the Traveler server version is significant and more details were added to the $Mailer field in later versions. I’m using IBM Traveler 9.0.1.14 Build 201609011443_40.

Maybe try upgrading and seeing if you get the additional info?

Subject: $Mailer

Check out the $Mailer field on the email. Should give you what you need.

Subject: $Mailer was one of the first fields I went for …

… but was disappointed to see just “IBM Traveler 9.0.1.8 Build 201510070111_20” and nothing else - this may or may not have something to do with the device management being done by a BES server rather than directly to Traveler, I’m not sure (another team manages the mobile device setup).

… so it could well be something in the later version that enables it. I’ll pass the information on.

Subject: Hmmm … interesting

That’s fine - with the BES12/Traveler combination, at least the blackberry devices can be identified. Maybe it’s something in the way the BES12/Traveler setup here that’s suppressing it for some reason - any ideas where I might start looking?

Thanks for your feedback thus far - very helpful.

Subject: More Info

I did some messing about with BES12 and the $Mailer field does have the Traveler server version and device info. I was using a Blackberry device though.

Also tried AirWatch, using the native email app and Boxer the Traveler server version and device info present.
