Traveler and E72 (Symbian S60) memory issues

I installed Treveler on an E72 and didn’t think too much about the settings. All seemed OK at first but then I started to get messaging: memory full errors please close open applications. As there weren’t any open apps. I suspected something was awry. Anyway the problem seems to relate to the fact I opted to synchronise the Sent folder and no matter what I do I cannot get rid of it. I have hard reset the phone with the *#7370# command, reloaded the software using the OVI PC application, hard reset with the keyboard:Hold these buttons:

  • Capslock

  • Space

  • Backspace

and Press the power on

Used the factory reset in Control Panel.

I have reinstalled Traveler - two versions. Despite all this I still get a memory problem and cannot get rid of the Sent folder.

Any ideas anyone?

It appears the Nokia E72 keeps Traveler configuration information in the phone and on the memory card. The impossibility of removing the Sent folder was caused by some missmatch between the two records.

To fix:

Remove memory card, copy contents to alternate location, reformat memory card on PC to FAT32.

Hard reset the phone using key press combination.

Connect to PC and use OVI suite to reinstall Traveler onto the phone. Ignore warning messages on phone about having no memory card.

Enter Traveler settings.

Remove Sent folder.

Reinsert memory card. Phone recreates folder structure automatically in the background.

Job done.

I think there is a simpler solution now having played around some more with the phone. If the memory card is removed and the phone restarted, Traveler does not work properly but it does allow the Sent folder to be removed. Worth trying this first, as it avoids wiping all your settings from the phone with a hard reset.

As an aside I would strongly recommend not selecting the Sent folder for replication onto the phone. You are virtually certainly going to get out of memory messages and have to get rid of it by one of the methods given in this thread.

Thankx

I still have the Nokia E72 and several firmware upgrades later I still like it! (I much prefer phones with buttons designed to be phones and not gaming machines.) Traveler works well on it - can have quite a few folders now without problems.
