Transaction logs not recycled

When using Backup Exec 2010 with the Domino agent, the transactional logs are not recycled.

Within Windows Explorer I can see the A flag being removed after backup, but Domino doesnt get notified about the fact it can recycle the logs, it seems.

Anyone experienced this?

Subject: Support assistance required

What style of Transaction logging is enabled? Archival,Circular, or Linear? That said, is your drive being filled up with TXN files?

Domino will only delete transaction logs extents on the following two occasions:

  1. It reuses an extent (marked as archived) and renames it to the next sequential number (while this is not a true deletion, that is how it appears to the Domino administrator)

  2. The server is restarted, and all extents marked as archived that Domino no longer needs are removed upon a clean server shutdown or they will get deleted on server startup to handle the case when the server crashes instead of shutting down cleanly.

This will probably require additional support from Lotus, but one thing to have ready is the control file for Lotus support. They would want to review a control from before and after a backup runs. The file is called logctrl.lfh.

Subject: Marc is correct

You should open a PMR to have this looked at and include the nlogctrl.lfh file as well as a list of the transaction log directory. If you include a few of the lowest numbered .TXN files as well that would help to determine if the extents have been archived according to domino.
