TotalRouted NRPC and SMTP

In Domino Admin, tab Server-Statistics, there is a MAIL statistic called TotalRouted. There are 2 entries under this stat, one is called NRPC and the other is called SMTP. What does each of these mean and what does the number next to them represent? I see SMTP’s number is # of messages. I’d like to have a better understanding of each of these for a report I am putting together.

NRPC - Notes remote procedure call -

Mail sent from one Notes user to another is typically routed via NRPC; internet mail is typically routed via SMTP.
