Hi,
Recently we installed the Spanish Language Pack in a clustered system, and all is working ok now, but when we decided how make that installation we didn’t found enough information about which is the better way to do it. I want to share our experience with all of you and I would like to know if somebody know a better way to install Language Packs in clusters.
Details:
As you know, Domino server is only in english language, and if you want it in a diferent language you have to install the respective LP.
- ok
The LP translate a lot of system templates and add some functionality to the server to work in a multilingual environment.
- ok
If dont have clustered servers you can easily install your preferred LP adding the new language or replacing the current language in your server.
- ok
But, if you have a clustered system you can’t use the Replace option the first time when you install a LP, only you can use Add (according the Readme.txt file inside LP cd), thus, at the end of installation you have a cluster with your LP added but the names.nsf remains in english because it is non-multilingual db.
- ok
Our solution-
We had to install a new non-clustered server only to use the Replace option and take the translated template (in spanish). Then we copied this template to our cluster and replaced the design of the names.nsf in the cluster.
This solution worked well, but I think is not easy because you have to install a new server to take the translated templates.
I dont know why in the LP documentation say that you have to use only the ADD option. They dont explains why:
"When upgrading a clustered server proceed as
follows:
-
Use the ADD option to run the Language Pack
Software on the server.
-
Upgrade all servers in the cluster and
install the Language Pack software on them
simultaneously."
