I’ve been handed some requirements for across-the-entire-web-site searches which I don’t believe domain search can meet. Specifically, the Powers That Be want to be able to group results by relatively arbitrary categories and filter search results by the contents of individual fields (for example, show every document across several databases containing the word “vermouth” but only where a field named Product contains “crankshaft”). I’m toying with the idea of agent-based searches, but I’d really like something more efficent, and we might be open to third-party add-ons. I gather that X2 and Google’s search appliance can be used to search Domino data. Are there more? Perhaps some which are specifically for Domino?

Take a look at NCT Search. I don’t know for sure it would do all you want, but it would do most of it, and it is an excellent multi-db search solution.
