Themedata.thmx and attachments unreadable

A few of my users have been having trouble with attachments since we upgraded the Lotus Domino Server to R8.5.1 (we also installed FixPack 1) from R7.02 and Lotus Notes clients to R8.5.1 Mail design is Mail 8.5.1

They get weekly emails from vendors who attach PDF files with current data.

However what’s been happening for the past few weeks is that we can see the PDF files, but there’s also a file called “themedata.thmx” attached.

The vendor claims they don’t attach anything with a *.thmx extension and after Googling themedata.thmx, I tend to believe them.

It appears to be some sort of HTML or XML code created within Word or Outlook 2007 (it might even be their signature file) and it’s not converting well.

I’m old enough to remember the att000.dat files that my users would get in emails sent from users with old Outlook clients, so this doesn’t surprise me.

But here’s the problem - we can’t open or save the PDF files! When you try to open one of the attached PDF files, a box pops up saying-

Server Error: This database cannot be read due to an invalid on disk structure

I have found 2 workarounds (and I hope this offers someone a clue as to what the actual issue may be).

If the user forwards the email with attachments to themselves, then they can open the PDF file. Weird, but it works.

The second workaround is to open the email using a web browser. The attachments are there, along with the aforementioned themedata.thmx file and other files too (filelist.xml and colorscheme).

The PDFs can be opened normally (no forwarding required).

Anyone else seen this and more importantly, anybody know how to fix this?

Thanks.

Subject: Invalid on disk structure attempting to open attachments

We are also having this same issue on Domino and Notes 8.5.1.

Same behavior as the other posts - the user forwards the email and they can open the pdf attachments. Then can open using iNotes too.

As the original emails that generate the error are sent from outside the company I started looking at the Page Source and the MIME encoding. My initial thought is that the MIME is not encoded correctly, but I’ve got to do some research on this to confirm.

Any other ideas out there?

We do not receive the additional attachments that you reference, however we have been seeing a few pdf attachments that come in that cause the same error.

Note: If user forwards it to himself, the attachment can then be opened successfully.

Server: 8.5

Server OS: iSeries OS400 V6R1M0

Client: 8.5.1

Mail template: 8.5.1

This only appears to have begun recently after we converted the ODS to 51 and enabled LZ1, design and data compression. This is affecting the random new email coming in - the only pattern I see is that they are all PDFs affected, however the majority of email that comes in with PDF attachments are fine.

Subject: Some, not all PDF attachments error Invalid On Disk Structure

We are having this same issue frequently after updated the ODS to 51 which was the final step of our upgrade from 7.0.3 to 8.5.1. If the user forwards me the email I can open the pdf attachments. The user can also open the attachments from their sent view. Using iNotes also works. Just creating a forward email without sending will allow access to the pdf attachments. Notably, the original email with the error was sent from outside the company to an internal Notes user.
