I know there are a ton of posts about this but I would like to get a best practices list if possible. All the posts say how to do it a little different. So if I could get a proceedure that would be great. Thanks

How would the tips someone might give you here be any different than the ones in other posts? Why would you consider something posted here more definitive?

At the risk of “over-simplifying” this:
- Make a local template
Do ALL of your design work in there
test it by having a local .nsf as well
- Create a template on the server
designate it as both a design template and to inherit from your local template.
refresh from your local template up to the server template
- Create the Live database.
Designate your live database to only inherit from the template.
Refresh the live databse from the server template
Refresh Refresh Refresh
With all that said - each individual design element has a property call Inherit design from _____
If the system is set up as above, there is really no need for every one of those to be filled in - the whole design will update on refresh.
If you have multiple sources for elements (views from one db - forms from another) you will need to set the individual properties.
Keep in mind, that at night the server usually refreshes designs so anything staged in your server template will go live overnight.
These are the basics. You can make this more complicated at your discretion.
