I’m having an issue connecting to 25. I can telnet localhost, and from the other Domino server as well as our Linux Gateways… also a random Linux Server unrelated to mail. From a windows machine internally on the same subnet however, the connect fails.
We’ve been up and down our Domino server docs and everything appears to be in order. I’m out of ideas at this point.
Any suggestions?

Just in case you haven’t found an answer, there is another possibility (this bit me today)
We’re setting up a cluster, we set the cluster port first in the list and guess what, SMTP bound to that IP instead of the LAN ip - meaning that no body could use SMTP since the cluster network is ONLY connected to the Notes servers. So, we had to add SMTPNotesPort= in the INI and restart smtp.
You can verify that smtp is listening by running netstat -a -n from the command prompt
You should see the IP you want SMTP on with a port 25 entry for listening.

sounds like a firewall issue -
Many desktop Anti-virus packages can be setup to block SMTP (read: port 25) traffic.
