On previous releases of Sametime, there was an option to integrate telephony at the Sametime me Client, so you can enable the user desktop as a sip phone, reciving and doing calls from the sametime client, and having his own personal extension assigned.
If I not wrong, there were 2 ways to do that, either using Sametime Unified Telephony (at sever), orr a very simple one, just at the Sametime client (lite), enabling some parameters so Sametime Client can act as sip phone client.
I guess I can forgot about Sametime Unified Telefony on new Sametimes Releases, because Sametime is now a complete rebuild, and there is no Advanced Server where enable the SIP licences (that was done previously at Websphere), but not sure if the Sametime Telephony "Lite" feature, that was specific to the Sametime Client (and was enabled with some parameters on the desktop, enabling sametime client to act as a sipphone), is still avaiable, I hope so.
I can not find more information about it, and I do not known if new clients of Sametime (11 and up) have also that features. Could you please me if that is possible, and if so, what is the way to enable it ? I am not longer able to find info about it, and that was a great feature, more even on COVID times, since it allows a better work from home and remote users !! Thks !!!
Good day Andres,
You are correct that the Version 11 Sametime clients no longer have the parameter that enables them to work with Sametime Version 9 Audio+Video. You may try adding this parameter to an 11 client, and testing:
com.ibm.collaboration.realtime.telephony.ui / hideTelephonyUI = false
This should enable AV for the Sametime embedded client in HCL Notes
Let us know how this works for you please,
Best Regards, Keith Kopanski

THks Keith,
I was no able to find where to add the parameter.. Is there any XML or INI file at Sametime Connect Client where I should look at ?
Could you please provide me with additional help about where to add that parameter ?
THks!
Hi Keith,
I found a file under C:\Program Files (x86)\HCL\Sametime Connect\rcp\plugin_customization.ini where I added:
com.ibm.collaboration.realtime.telephony.ui/hideTelephonyUI=false
com.ibm.collaboration.realtime.telephony.ui/enableTelephonyStatus=true
I reboted the sametime client, but I did not observe any change on it, I could not find any options related to telephony..
is that file the correct one to do the modification ?
Has HCL dropped the support for the embeed telephony of Sametime Telephony Lite ?
Thks !!
There are 2 methods that are getting confused here -
1) SUT /SUT Lite capabilities. These were surfaced thru the Sametime V9 MediaServer framework and policy settings. The two configuration items (hideTelephonyUI and EnableTelephonyStatus) apply to that configuration. They would only enable the features in the client IF a MediaServer was available and Community was enabled for it.
2) First Party Call Control (FPCC). This feature was added late in the 9.x releases and allowed the client to be configured as a softphone and had no reliance on the MediaServer configuration.
These features are considered deprecated with the 11.0 release and are no longer included in the latest clients.
Thks Anthony...
Now, I have clear both methods. I already suspected that option 1 was deprecated, but I had the hope that, being 2 only a configuration based on client, similar to a plugin, it was not.
So, both of them are deprecated and there is not way actually to have Sametime Client to work as a softphone :-( I am really sorry to heard that. Most of the current IM clients have actually some kind of softphone integration. Do you known if there is plan to have this back on the roadmap soon and have somekind on integration with telephony ? I personally think is a must to have feature.
Just ask all your mates to vote https://domino-ideas.hcltechsw.com/ideas/STC-I-227
Maybe we can get HCL to re-integrate this feature .
