Suggestions for improvement of the Workplace Welcome Page

Hi,I’ve been using the Workplace Welcome Page in 6.5.1 now for a little while (basically since I upgraded…)

I have a couple of suggestions how to improve the user experience, some of them being rather obvious (at least I’d say so):

  • make all frames/portlets resizable

e.g on the today tab with a 1280x1024 resolution (not too uncommon with flatscreens nowadays) almost half the screen is blank and I can’t resize the frames/portlets to use that space…

  • save the size of the frames/portlet (at least within a session)

if I do resize a frame/portlet (for some it is already possible), already switching to a different tab ynd back gives me the default size, and that even for frames/portlets which are available on all tabs (e.g. launcher, contact list, search).

  • give me more than 3 team tabs

please, if they can’t be in unlimited number, please at least give us say 12… I definitely do work in more than one team-like context so I already have all three used and I (for once) would like at least one or two more…

I don’t want to sound ungrateful, I do think the Workplace Welcome Page is a great thing, I like it a lot, it’s good work. But some of the details (as mentioned above) I still find annoying and not suitable/appropriate for a professional software product.

Subject: Do a design replace on your bookmark.nsf

with 6.5.1, the have the frames resizing to the full screen and you can resize them manually and the changes are saved

and you can actually go in and add your own tabs, but that means changing the bookmark.ntf design

An additional functionality would be the capabilities to re-order the tabs or Can I have the capabilities to add at least one database to the Today tab…that one would carry the company news. Allowing the user to be able to determine if they want a database or a web link would also be beneficial…Some additional niceties would be to be able to rename the links on the bottom of the collaboration tab.

I would like to see this expanded to include a lot more of the features the old “Portal Builder” template used to have.

I know this was as buggy as hell, but someting this flexible would be cool.

I would like to see the “portlets” allow forms/pages/framesets etc as well as views.

Subject: Further Suggestions

Another way to save valuable screen space would be to place the search bar in the top right corner. To be honest, that’s where most web sites put it, either at the lower left or at the top right (ok, that’s not empirically proven, it’s rather my personal impression… but still).
