I’ve just started experimenting with stylesheets in the Notes client, and decided it would be nice to implement something like this:
Have a single document which contains a single editable field for entering stylesheet (CSS) content.
Editing this would most likely be restricted to a user with an “Admin” role in the ACL, but the important part is that it can be modified without having Designer access. Editor access is sufficient.
Then all forms would reference this document as a stylesheet, allowing a normal user to modify the style of forms without using Designer.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to work.
My view alias is “v-css”. It’s sorted on the first column, with shows a “Title” field. The only document in the view has that field set to “StyleTest.css”.
The form used for that document has the content type set to “HTML”, and is set so that only the Body field is visible on the web.
I’ve put this formula in the “HTML Head Content” section of another form:
“<link rel="stylesheet" href="/somedirectory/databasename.nsf/v-css/StyleTest.css" type="text/css">”
If I open documents using that form in the Notes client, the stylesheet is not used.
However, if I open one of those documents on the web, the stylesheet is used.
OTOH, if I create a stylesheet resource using Designer, and insert that resource in the “HTML Head Content” of my form, it works for both Notes and the web… but that defeats the purpose of allowing normal users to edit the stylesheet.
So now my question…
Is there any way (either with a link tag or something else) to make the Notes client use a document as a stylesheet, or is the client only able to use stylesheet resources?
