++Strange Characters in Text field which inherits from RT field++

I have a form with a RT field. Many users will copy and paste text from a “Word” document into this RT field. The characters all appear to be fine when you view this field (even after it’s saved).

I have another “text” field on this form that is only supposed to inherit the text portion of the RT field using @Text(RTFieldName). This works fine accept some of the characters (which appear to look like double quotes or single quotes in the RT field) show up in the text field as a thick bold vertical bar.

I’ve tried using @Ascii, @Char, @Abstract, but I’m really not sure what the characters should be converted to by using this formula language. Is there any way to control this issue with code?

Thanks in advance,

Laurie

Those are “smart quotes” and such. Word uses them to look pretty, but the unicode characters which show these quotes are showing up in your non-Unicode text as that vertical bar. You could always replace them with regular quotes, but it is a bit of a nuisance. The best time might be after you grab the text out of the rich text and before you paste it in. Simply search for each offending character and replace it (copy the characters from the rich text into the LotusScript as the easiest way to get them).
