Hi there,
Two of the clients I am administrating have had problems starting their Notes client. They get the OK dialogue “An error was encountered when opening a window” before Notes closes down.
I checked the IBM_TECHNICAL_SUPPORT folder and found the console.log was locked. Restarted PC to ensure that notes is not in memory, but Notes Client will still not start.
Ended up reinstalling Client, but it did not help, had to be corrupt file(s) in data-folder. Running nfixup.exe (no options) did not help. Succeeded after a clean install, building data-directory.
Do anyone have an explanation/suggestion of what this could be and a better way of solving it?

Subject: Starting Notes Client - An error was encountered when opening a window
RobertYou will get the error in the following cases:
-
You double-click the Noes icon instead of single clicking.
-
Notes has crashed on you and you are trying to start it again.
-
In Task Manager see if ntaskdlr.exe is in use and kill it.
-
If the above are not true then in Explorer try opening the notes.exe or nlnotes.exe file directly. It may tell you which file is not available to it for starting Notes.
Hope this helps.

Correction: Patching to release 6.5.1 without any reinstall and running nfixup.exe dis solve it for the second case (not for the first). So, I still do not know the reason for the error./Robert
