Special characters ä, ö, å not working displayed by Java applet

I have a Newsticker applet from com.objectplanet that displays the horizontally headlines on pages hosted on a Domino Server.

This newsticker is fed with an xml-like code:

2006-10-23 Letters ä, ö, å not working in the Newsticker link URL

The special letters ä, ö, å are not displayed as they should even I set the character code of the form calling the applet to default.

I’m not allowed to decompile the applet and I have no idea how can I get these letters written as they should only by automatically computed parameter settings depending on the browser language.

Any ideas how to to that ?
