SMTP Server: Message rejected from authenticated user - failed to match directory address

User want to send mail from PDA via Domino SMTP Gateway with Authentication - it worked some months ago, but now:

SMTP Server: Message rejected. Authenticated user Mike Winter/ORG from host 80.187.102.13 sending mail from Mike Winter/OU@ORG failed to match directory address mike@org.com

Mail adress is ok, configuration document, Deny messages to be sent to the following external internet domains: *

Perform Anti-Relay enforcement for these connecting hosts: external hosts

Exceptions for authenticated users: Allow all authenticated users to relay

Only the * I added some days ago.

What is wrong now ? Any ideas ?

Thanks a lot.

Subject: SOLUTION: wrong parameter in notes.ini

I found following parameter in the notes.ini:

SMTPTranslateAdresses=2

I can’t remember the reason, I added this parameter, but now everything works fine.

Thanks for your patience and ideas.

Mike

Looks like Mike’s Internet email address in the PAB is mike@org.com, but his PDA is set up to send from some other address (like mike.winter@org.com).

I seem to recall that this is a new feature when sending SMTP email as an authenticated user - the sending SMTP address (RFC2821 MAIL FROM:) must match that of the authenticated user as given in the PAB.

It’s crazy, it seems, that authentification works.

First entry in log for this is following:

SMTP Server: Authentication succeeded for user Mike Winter/ORG ; connecting host 80.187.102.13

…BUT I found … there is no blank between the second name

“sending mail from MikeWinter/…”

SMTP Server: Message rejected. Authenticated user Mike Winter/ORG from host 80.187.102.13 sending mail from MikeWinter/ORG@DOMAIN failed to match directory address mwinter@internetdomain.com

Maybe this is the problem since 7.02 ?

I tried it with another entry in PAB without blank, it doesn’t work.

Any other ideas ?

Has anybody an idea, why this doesn’t work ?

The problem seems to be the missing blank, I tried all variations in the NAB, nothing works.

What format are you using for the username when you authenticate?

Where can I look for this ?

Subject: RE: SMTP Server: Message rejected from authenticated user - failed to match directory address

I found it in the server document:

Fewer name variations with higher security

Subject: RE: SMTP Server: Message rejected from authenticated user - failed to match directory address

OK something is causing the embedded space in the user name to be dropped, hence the failure to match the authenticated user with the Internet address.

You could add MikeWinter/ORG to the FullName field in the PAB and see if that works around the problem for you…

Downgrading to 7.01 and after this to 7.01 FP1 was not the solution…

any other good ideas ?
